7 Tips On How To Make Guest Blogging Work For You

Guest Posting
Guest blogging, while it normally doesn't pay cash, gives you great returns in terms of SEO benefits and reputation as an author. You get a larger audience than you would from your own blog alone, and you get backlinks from high authority blogs (where you posted) to boost your own ranking. As with most everything else, you've got to know the tricks of the trade to make guest blogging work for you.

Here are 7 tips that you could begin with:

1. The Google gossip

Word is, Google is going to devalue links in the author bio. Since you can't argue with the Big G, it makes sense to somehow insert your link in the article body instead. This is easier said than done because blogs that accept guest posts have their own rules. Create a good portfolio (even if you have never published before) and write a great pitch. Comment on other posts on the blog and, in short, make yourself a known figure. Then, and only then, ask for favors like link in the article body, and you could be pleasantly surprised.

2. Where does the link lead to?

This is weird: very few guest bloggers think of leading visitors to a landing page let alone one that is specialized to suit visitors from the parent site where the guest article was posted. Linking to your home page may guarantee a certain percentage of visitors, but it normally does nothing to convert them to subscribers as well.

Consider this: you are writing Article A on Site B. Create a landing page that says something like "Hi there! You just read A on B, didn't ya? Well, welcome to my site..." and put in the subscription form along with a freebie to "thank" your visitors for reading your article. Regarding the freebie (gift, actually), say something like "Tell us where to send it" and you'll have quite a few emails already.

3. How do you link?

Anchor texts are fine; ones with keywords are great; catchy ones with keywords that entice visitors to follow the link to your site are even better. However, there is something called "co-occurrence". This would be the keywords found around, not in, your anchor text. This is something like LSI (latent semantic indexing) keywords; only the keywords that you use here are going to be top-class main keyword types and are best utilized when you can use them to tell the search engines what your site is all about.

4. Focus on the page, not the site

Reputation of the site is not immaterial, but you gain as much authority as the page you are going to be on. Make yourself familiar with the site and its audience, and the kind of post that gets most comments and write accordingly to figure on a high authority/PR page.

Check out also the site owner's social media profiles. See if they have enough followers or subscribers. You want to reach a wider audience; unless the person is well connected, that may not happen.

5. Cross linking

Create profiles on different social media sites (several of the same, real profile, not creepy ones that change your mugshot or distort your name). Link your guest article to other guest posts of yours and your profiles and vice versa - leave no stone unturned to create a mesh of links around your web-presence. Since you are not creating the mesh with dime a dozen autoblogs or article directories, your links will count.

6. Sometimes, promote your guest posts, not your site

This is not missing the point at all. What you are aiming at here is author reputation. Google +1, Facebook likes, etc, actually lead to social endorsement that Google values. So, what actually happens is that when you are promoting your post, the parent site being high authority (why else would you guest post there?) lends credence to your reputation as an author. And when people try to find out more about you, voila! - they get to know of your site! This is actually as simple as it sounds. When it begins to work for you, remember we told you first.

7. Get organized

You will be able to make use of the earlier points only when you know where you guest-posted, what your subjects were, if you are going to post again, if you got a better idea over one you had last year on a given topic and so on. Have all the data regarding your activities in a spread sheet so that you don't end up sending duplicate posts to a number of blog owners. It will also put things in perspective for you; show you your progress or the lack of it.

Apart from these 7 tips, it helps to find a niche along your own to guest post. However, this is not absolutely necessary, since you can be naturally interested in and expert in several different topics and since the reputation factor is viewed separately by Google even though it is ultimately going to give you SEO benefits.

How To Use Guest Blogging To Build Your Online Reputation

Guest Posting
You've spent months working on your blog, regularly posting great content and seeing a steady stream of traffic. But things have tapered off. You aren't seeing the numbers increase in any noticeable way and you aren't gaining any new followers.

While working on your search engine optimization and doing more to market your blog and your posts via social media and other blogs can give your site a boost, one of the most effective means of driving new traffic - and building your online reputation in the process - is to do something you're already doing: blogging.

But instead of creating content for your site, consider guest blogging as a means to attract new fans and followers. Guest blogging, in the simplest terms, is writing a post (or a series of posts) for another blog. When you do so, you get to share ideas or thoughts with a new audience that may not have otherwise found your work. Since most guest blogs include a link to your blog, as well as relevant social media profiles, readers can connect with you and your work, building up your site's numbers. However, guest blogging requires more than simply banging out a blog post and offering it to other bloggers.

Finding Opportunities

As a blogger, you already know it's a time-consuming process. Creating, posting and marketing content takes time, which is why many bloggers are eager for qualified guest bloggers who can bear some of the burden.

Start by contacting the owners of blogs that you read regularly and think you could contribute something meaningful to. Sometimes, blogs actively seek guest bloggers. In other cases, you'll need to reach out and ask about opportunities. Try searching "guest blogger opportunities" or "guest blogger jobs" and you'll find several sites that serve as clearinghouses for bloggers looking for guests.

If you're interested in blogging for a major site, such as Huffington Post, Babble or Mashable, follow the editorial guidelines for querying and submitting blogs.

Give Them What They Want

Before you reach out to a blogger, have an idea of what you would like to write about. In general, guest posts that offer how-to instructions, whether for a specific project or for doing something better are the most popular. Let the blog owner know what you can offer in terms of photos and illustrations, and supply a link to your blog so they can get a feel for your style. Above all, before you query, read your target blog - ideally, several months' worth of posts - to get a feel for the blog's style and tone, and to ensure you're offering something new and different.

Of course, when you do create your post, use the same care and attention to detail you would for a post on your site. In general, keep your post between 400 - 700 words, offer high-quality photographs and check your grammar and spelling before you send it.

Maximizing Your Post

While guest posting is an ideal way to share your content, the real purpose (for both you and your host) is to build traffic and a name for yourself online. To start, always include a bio with your guest post. Write the bio in the third person, and reference your blog - which should be linked to your blog, ideally to a post relevant to the guest post. Include a link to your Twitter profile or Facebook page as well to give readers the opportunity to connect with you.

You should also promote your guest post among your own networks. Mention on your blog and social media feeds you're guest blogging, and provide a link to the post. This helps drive traffic for your host, and gives your followers some "bonus" content.

Guest blogging can drive traffic to your site as well as give you additional exposure and name recognition. When you regularly contribute to reputable sites with a large and loyal fan base, you not only build your fan base, you also build trust and credibility in your niche - and make it easier for other blog owners to contact you with opportunities.

Strategies For Finding Guest Posting Opportunities

Guest Posting
Guest posting is a great way to build relevant inbound links to your website which contributes to about 80% of what you can do to improve your SEO rankings. It is important to mention that on-page SEO is about 20% of what you can do to rank your site organically.

Guest posting in some cases is also referred to as guest blogging. It is one of the best ways to build authority to your site. However, identifying the best guest posting opportunities for link development strategy is the most difficult part. You can build credibility around your site by guest posting or guest blogging on the most credible locations or guest blogging sites.

When you are starting a site from scratch, it is rare to get an audience. However, you shouldn't find this a problem anymore if you use the following best strategies to find the best guest posting or guest blogging opportunities.

Search engines

This is one of the quickest and most intuitive ways to finding relevant guest posting opportunities related to your website's niche. It is for this reason that you should make Google and other big search engines your great friends. Once you find the relevant guest blogging locations you are looking for, it is very vital that you check if they have a well-established guest post system. You can do this by checking if they've ever accepted guest posts in the recent past. Ignore guest blogging sites that lack the history of accepting guest posts.

You can also check out the advanced Google blog search bar if you can't find the best guest posting location using the traditional Google search bar. This is quite simple because it involves searching for your primary keywords with quotations like "write for us", "submit guest post" and "submit an article" etc.

Leveraging social media

Once you have exhausted all the advanced search engine queries mentioned earlier, social media can be your best option to turn to. It mainly involves looking for friends on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter who have guest blogging sites relevant to your site's niche. For instance, you can do this by typing and scanning for the keyword on twitter directories like Twellow and Wefollow. This gives you a pretty good list of people who have guest posting sites you can actually put your guest post. Leveraging with social media is the only way to find influencers around a specific topic relevant to your niche.

Spy on your competitors

This is one of the best strategies you can use to find the best guest posting opportunities used by your competitors. However, majority of people are not willing to fully exploit this strategy. Check on your competitor's backlinks with SEO tools and sites like Majestic SEO, Open Site Explorer or backlinkwatch.org. This mainly entails analysis of successful guest posting opportunities used by your competitors. Spying on your competitors is indeed a great strategy to gain additional backlinks with a little effort.

Blog directories

Blogging is the most raging activity online these days. Quite a large number of blogs offer free guest posting opportunities even if you don't have to advertise them. If you can tap into existing blog directories then, make an inquiry with some blogs regardless of whether they advertise or not. If you want to concentrate solely on your website's niche then, look for specific blog directories using search engines like Google.

Leveraging previous guest posts

You can leverage on your previous guest posts by using them as a billboard to advertise your inbound links. Also, mention your availability for guest opportunities by interacting with your commenters. Interacting with your commenters can create an opportunity for you to rub shoulders with the followers who have blogging sites relevant to your niche. This is one big opportunity to grow your audience and a network. The bottom line is: even if you have worked with a blog in the past, take the entire guest post opportunities you can get.

Tell people

This is one rare strategy employed by a few website owners seeking guest posts on other blogging sites. You should put into consideration the fact that one of your visitors could be a blogging website owner who is willing to let you guest post on their sites. Bloggers are always looking for quality content to add to their blogging sites, your guest post might be one of them.

How You Can Get Started With Accepting Guest Posts On Your Website

Guest Posting
Increasing traffic to a site is an activity that many site owners are spending a great deal of time in learning. One of the main reasons why increasing the traffic on the site is so important today is because it is tied to popularity and money. Fortunately, there are many different sites online that can provide the business owner with the information that is needed. From information on search engine optimization techniques to social networks, there is a huge amount of information that a site owner can search through to find out what will work and what will not.

For those who are operating their own blogs, there are many ways to increase the views on the site. People who are well versed in posting good information on their own site are normally very skilled in keeping people engaged because they know and understand what their audience is looking for. However, in addition to the audience reading the information that the blogger has acquired over time, the blogger can also solicit the expertise of others. By soliciting the expertise of other bloggers, the site owner can also increase the traffic to their site. Soliciting blogs from others involves guests blogging.

Benefits of Soliciting Guest Bloggers

Even if the individual operates a small blog that has only a few hundred monthly visitors, they can benefit from offering space on their site for a guest blogger. Some of the benefits to having a guest blogger include:

Acquiring unique and quality content. Some bloggers will interview the guest blogger before their post their information. In fact, some of the blog site owners may choose to approve the titles that they will write about. If the titles that the guest blogger provides are acceptable, the information can be posted on their site. Most site owners will be looking for unique and quality content, which is always needed if the blogger is going to keep the readers' engaged.

Reduces the time-spent writing. Keeping a site filled with good quality content is not always easy because it does take both time and effort. If the site is going to be successful, it is important for the owner of the site to plan out what they are going to write about. This involves keeping a listening ear out for the things that most readers like. Also, based on the site, the blogger can provide useful information about several related topics (i.e. how to fix a credit report). Therefore, by soliciting multiple guest bloggers, the site owner can also reduce the time that is normally spent in writing articles. If the site owner makes the right plans, guests bloggers can help to fill in the gaps on certain days of the week or month.

Getting Started and Useful Tips

Getting started does not have to be a difficult task, if the site owner has the right information. Listed below are some tips that can be used.

1. Post a Guest Blogger Page.

Posting a guests blogger page is a win-win situation for both the blog site owner and guest blogger. By posting a guest blogger page, the site owner can explain what they are looking for and what guests blogging will mean to them. For example, potential bloggers will know that they will be receiving free publicity from the site. In addition to free publicity, the bloggers will also have a link added that will lead the readers back to their site. The guests blogger page should also indicate the timeframes for these guests appearance (i.e. dates when the articles will be published).

2. Post a Get Interviewed page.

To make it easy for the guest bloggers to respond to the Guest Blogger Page, the site owner should create a list of standard questions. Even though this can be changed out on a regular basis (weekly, monthly or yearly), these questions will give the guests blogger a head start and they will know what the site owner is looking for. This means they will not have to spend a lot of time researching nor contacting the site owners about their preferences or requirements.

3. Utilize social networking forums to get the word out.

Twitter, Facebook and other social network are great tools when reaching a specific target audience. Therefore, the site owner can reach a large target audience with one message. Prior to making any type of announcements regarding this need, the site owner should check the rules of the forums before they do any type of solicit.

Another great option for soliciting guests bloggers is to contact them via private requests. These can be bloggers where there are previous relationships formed (community associations) or new bloggers that the audience may be specifically impressed by.

A Guide To Guest Blogging For SEO In 2012

Guest Blogging
Guest blogging has become one of the most popular link building techniques used by SEOs today. This post will run through some of the most important things to remember when it comes to blogging on other people's blogs.

There are a few reasons why guest blogging is so popular:

1. It's a totally white hat technique, and is approved of by the search engines.

2. It's a win-win solution - the blog owner gets a piece of free content, the SEO gets exposure for their client, and a link back to their client's website.

3. The whole process adds value to the web, unlike some shadier "black hat" tactics.

Finding guest blogging opportunities

There are a number of ways to go about finding sites that are accepting, and indeed welcome, guest bloggers. The first and most obvious is to tap into your existing contacts. Perhaps you have a blogger who you have given your product to review previously. Or perhaps you know someone offline who has a blog in your niche (it doesn't always have to be in your niche - more on this later on). There are lots of reasons why you may have the email address or phone number of a blogger. Drop them a line and ask them whether they accept guest content.

Another good way of searching for guest blog opportunities is through searching on Google. Try a few searches related to your niche, such as "luxury travel guest blogging" or "luxury travel guest posting" or "travel guest writers needed". Google should point you in the right direction. When you find a blog, check that it has not got a crappy design, has Page Rank and was recently updated. Email them and suggest a topic that you could write about on their blog. You should be able to make a few contacts this way.

Another great way of finding guest posting opportunities is to use guest blogging websites such as Blogger Link Up or My Blog Guest. Blogger Link Up is an email mailing list that has blogs looking for guest content, plus people offering their content for other blogs. It goes out a couple of times a week, and contains 100 or so opportunities. I've used it for one of our clients and received about six or seven emails from people offering to write for my blog. I ended up using a couple of them.

My Blog Guest is an actual web site that matches people who are looking for blog content with those looking to provide it. It uses a bulletin board system to display opportunities, and breaks down each ad into categories e.g. real estate, SEO, home and garden. As you would expect, the most popular category on the site is SEO and web marketing; one downside of the site is that it has less posts from other niches.

These two sites, like most of the web, are dominated by US sites. This can make things difficult if you are looking to host or post UK-specific content - beware.

Writing the post

Once you have acquired a target site, have made contact with the owner and established that they would like you to write for them, then you need to write the post. Obviously it helps if you have experience in the niche that the blog is in. If you have knowledge of your client's niche, you can write about that. If you don't, find a blog that is in a niche you know about, then write on that. There is value in doing both. If the niche is not the same as your client, you should still be able to get your link back.

Once you have written the post, email the blogger with it. Make sure you include in the email the bio that they are to use at the bottom of the post - make it an anchor text link. Usual SEO best practice applies here - vary your anchor text between posts.

Keep a record of all the guest posts you have written, so you can see who you have links from and for which client. I recommend you do this on an Excel spreadsheet for ease of use.
