Normal Blogging Resumes Next Week

Blog News
Yes, I'm still here and not relaxing on some exotic beach somewhere after winning the lottery! :)

It has been a crazy (and I do mean "crazy!") few weeks here which again, has prevented me from doing my normal blogging routine. Not only has my blogging suffered from this busy period, but everything else. I won't go into detail (as it would take far too long) but it will literally take weeks to get back to normality, especially with Christmas just around the corner.

Thankfully, this busy period is now well and truly over and I'm pleased to announce that normal blogging will resume next week. I hope, if all goes to plan, to get a few posts published on the blog just before the Christmas break. If you have been inquiring about guest posting or advertising on the blog over the past couple of weeks, expect to receive a reply to your emails over the weekend.

As always during these unexpected busy times, I want to thank you for your patience and understanding, not to mention your support over the past few weeks and I'll see you back here next week with a shiny, brand new post. Until then, have an enjoyable and relaxing weekend! If you're out Christmas shopping, don't forget to get me a present..!! :)

P.S. If you are interested in guest posting, submitting articles or advertising your products and/or services on the blog, please don't hesitate to contact me using the Contact tab above.

P.P.S. The Bloggers Network community has just been launched on Google+. In addition to the Bloggers Network Facebook group, you can now share your latest blog posts and network with other bloggers on Google+. You can access the new community at https://plus.google.com/communities/104330857061483680840

Introducing Regular Guest Posts

Guest Posting
Since publishing a post back in November offering guest posting opportunities, the response has been phenomenal. I've received hundreds of emails from people requesting to guest post on the blog and I want to take this opportunity to say a BIG thank you to all those who have shown their interest.

Given this unexpected but wonderful response, I'm delighted to announce that I will be publishing a guest post every one to two weeks (depending on continued demand) along with my usual blog posts and featured articles. I'm really excited about this opportunity, not only to introduce you to other writers, but also to the fresh new content that they will bring to the blog.

You'll be able to easily distinguish these guest post from my normal posts by the graphic that is used above. I will be using this graphic on all guest posts in addition to adding a sentence at the beginning of each post which will introduce you to the author.

There are some guest posts that I'm particularly excited about, one being from a fellow blogger, friend and my co-administrator at Bloggers Network, Dawn Sievers, who has agreed to do a guest post on social media. Sorry Dawn if I've now put you on the spot but I truly believe, given your exceptional talent as a writer and your knowledge on social media, that your contribution will be hugely beneficial to my readers. Thank you so much for agreeing to do this Dawn, it's a real honour to have you write for us! You can view Dawn's exceptional writing skills on her Healing Morning blog at http://healingmorning.blogspot.com

Even though I've received an overwhelming response with regards to guest posting, there's always room for more. If you write business-related articles or articles on the topics of Internet Marketing, Affiliate Marketing, Social Media Marketing, Blogging, Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) or Search Engine Marketing (SEM), I would certainly like to hear from you. Just use the Contact tab above for more information, guidelines and to get in touch.

The next guest post will hopefully be on Tuesday by James Harper who has written a wonderful article on how loving your business can help turn it into a success. I will also be publishing a featured article later next week on why you should not trust any SEO company that can guarantee you a first page or top 10 ranking.

Until then, enjoy your day, have a wonderful weekend and thank you as always for the support you have given Derek's Home and Business Blog. Having this support makes the blog such a pleasure to run and to write for. Thank you again and to all those who have shown their interest in guest posting, please keep them requests coming :)

Opportunities For Guest Posting, Link Exchanges And Advertising

Guest Posting
Since its launch back in August 2010, Derek's Home and Business Blog has grown beyond all my expectations and it's all down to you, my valued and dedicated followers, visitors and my friends at Bloggers Network.

This growth is truly exceptional and therefore, I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for making this blog so successful and for your continued support. You make this blog and the work that goes into it all worthwhile.

Given this exciting growth, I'm now able to offer some extra services on the blog. These services include Guest Posting, Article Submissions, Reciprocal Link Exchanges and a variety of Advertising options for those wishing to promote their products and/or services on the blog.

Here's a quick break-down of the services that's being offered...

Guest Posting and Article Submissions

I'm always on the lookout for high quality, informative articles to offer my readers. If you write business-related articles or articles on the topics of Internet Marketing, Affiliate Marketing, Social Media Marketing/Optimisation (SMO), Blogging, Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) or Search Engine Marketing (SEM), I would like to hear from you.

To ensure you have full recognition for your work, each published article or guest post will be featured and include two "DoFollow" links to your website or blog; one in the lead-in sentence (used to introduce you) at the beginning of the article/post and the other at the end of the article/post within the author's bio. You can also promote your social network profiles by including your Facebook, Google+ or Twitter profile links within the bio section. Guidelines on guest posting and article submissions can be found on the Write For Us page.

Reciprocal Link Exchanges

Reciprocal link exchanges that fit into the subject matter of the blog are always welcome. If you are interested in exchanging links and your site is of good quality, has a fair amount of traffic and has a Google PageRank of 3 or more, please contact me with your site details using the Contact tab above. Don't forget that if you're a blog owner, you can list your blog in our new Blog Directory page.

Advertising

Although based in the UK, Derek's Home and Business Blog receives traffic from and promotes to a global audience. If you are an advertising agency or an individual interested in advertising your products and/or services on the blog, please don't hesitate to contact me using the Contact tab above.

Advertising options within the subject matter of the blog can include Banners, Contextual Ads, Text Links, Videos and Articles. These options can be of any length of time (from one month to permanent), depending on your or the client's requirements. All advertising prices are currently open to negotiations (until further notice) and to avoid transaction and currency conversion fees, payments made using PayPal. For more details and pricing, visit the Advertise page.

Please note: To continue to ensure that the blog can be viewed by any age group, we do not offer advertising options where the content of the advertisement or the site it links to contains gambling, pharmaceutical or adult content.

If you are interested in guest posting or submitting articles, exchanging links or advertising your products and/or services on the blog, please don't hesitate to contact me using the Contact tab above.

Finally and for those of you who may be concerned over the new advertising options and what it might do to the quality of the blog, don't worry. The quality of the blog and its written content will always take priority over any advertising. Allowing some advertising on the blog and the revenue it generates helps go towards the upkeep of the blog and pay for the services I use to promote it. Striking the right balance between quality and having the right amount of advertising can sometimes be difficult but I hope to get this right...if I don't, be sure to let me know :)

Once again, thank you for your continued support and for making the blog what it is today. I'll continue to bring you more of the same quality posts that you've come to enjoy.

As ever, if you want to stay up to date with the latest blog posts, don't forget to follow via Google Friend Connect (button on sidebar), on NetworkedBlogs, via Email (maximum of one email per day), on Facebook and Google+ or by subscribing to our blog feed at:

Don't Worry, I'm Still Alive And Kicking!

Latest News
With not posting on the blog for over three weeks, I've had many emails asking what is happening as it's unlike me not to post on the blog for such a long time. Don't worry folks, I'm still alive and kicking :)

The past three weeks have been a bit hectic here. First of all, I decided to take a week off at the end of September because we had some glorious hot weather here…it was my last chance to get some serious bike riding done before the winter months set in. You can view some of the pictures I've taken on Facebook using the following links:

Bike Ride Photo Collection:

After my week of bike riding, I was suddenly inundated with a few tasks which needed my urgent attention. These tasks took longer than normal to complete, which is the reason why no blog posts have been published. Hopefully, everything should be completed within the next day or so and I can get back to my normal blogging routine…I surely could do with the rest :)

Thank you to all those who were concerned about me and thank you to all my followers, visitors and friends at Bloggers Network for your understanding and patience during this time…it will be business as usual very soon, I promise..!!

Happy Birthday Blog: We're One Year Old Today

Happy 1st Birthday
I'm happy to announce that Derek's Home and Business Blog is now one year old and therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my followers and visitors for your continued support and for making the blog a soaring success. You make this blog and the work that goes into it all worthwhile.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the members of Bloggers Network who have supported me and my blog for the past 8 months. Thank you to all the wonderful and talented authors who I'm proud to be associated with.

When I first setup the blog on the 8th August of last year, it's primarily aim was to provide a more personal approach with a little bit of business banter thrown in. In fact and one year on, business banter is now an understatement...it's now more highly business orientated than I first anticipated.

Business, SEO and marketing (plus social media) has always been my passion and when I see something really interesting (which is daily), I just cannot help myself but to blog about it. I do try to add personal posts about myself but the business, SEO and marketing side always seems to win. This is not a bad thing as blogging on a personal level is all about something you are passionate about and the topics mentioned above are certainly the case.

Given this, I'm going to make some changes to the blog over the next few weeks. First and foremost will be the description of the blog. Having business banter in the description just doesn't cut it anymore or do the blog justice. Another change I'm looking at is a new layout. Since I'm completely hopeless at design, this may take some time :)

Anyhow, I'm so happy to see how the blog has progressed over the past year and it's through my dedicated followers, my friends at Bloggers Network and the amount of visitors I receive daily that makes me so proud that people enjoy my blog and the posts I provide. I will continue to bring you more of the same for the foreseeable future.

Again, thank you for your continued support and for making the blog a soaring success. Here's to the next 12 months :)

As ever, if you want to stay up to date with the latest blog posts, don't forget to follow via Google Friend Connect (button on sidebar), on Facebook or subscribe to our feed at: http://feeds.feedburner.com/DereksHomeAndBusinessBlog

To celebrate the blog's birthday, I couldn't resist publishing this post at exactly 08:08am :) Until my next post, have a fabulous week!

Introducing The Mirage Business Network

To replace the Mirage Discussion Board which was recently closed down due to frequent spam posts and being a magnet for spammers (see post: Discussion Board, Google Plus One & Other News), I am pleased to announce the creation of a new Facebook page for small business owners and affiliate marketers called the Mirage Business Network.

The Mirage Business Network is a page for business owners and affiliate marketers to network with each other. Advertise your business, post your latest offers, plus discuss anything to do with business. You can access the new page by visiting: http://www.facebook.com/MirageBusinessNetwork

If you're looking to increase traffic and sales, need help and advice, or just want to chat with other business owners and affiliate marketers to share ideas and marketing tips etc, the Mirage Business Network is the place for you. Join us today and start networking!

I'm still in the process of setting up dedicated topics on the page's Discussion Board, similar to those topics found on the original board. I will also be setting up in the next few days a Business Network group to compliment the page. Stay tuned for more information on this.

Note: If you're a blog owner, don't forget to join the Bloggers Network. You can access the group and support page by visiting:
http://www.facebook.com/groups/BloggersNetworkGroup
http://www.facebook.com/BloggersNetwork

I hope you find Mirage Business Network useful for your business and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me using the Contact tab above.

Other News

The past 3 weeks have been a bit hectic here which has meant I haven't been able to spend as much time online as I would like. Not only was there a delay in launching the Mirage Business Network page, but it's been over 3 weeks since my last blog post - not good..!! Anyhow, give me a day or so to catch up then it's business as usual :)

Discussion Board, Google Plus One & Other News

It's been quite hectic here over the past two weeks and as a result, I haven't been able to do a blog post. Here's an insight of what's been happening...

Mirage Discussion Board

I have this week taken the difficult decision to close down the Mirage Discussion Board. Setup in October of last year, the board was aimed at providing help and support for online business owners and affiliate marketers. In addition to providing help and support, you could also post articles as well as advertise your online business.

Unfortunately over the past few months, the board has become a magnet for spammers to post their content which caused a considerable amount of work to moderate. Out of the 1000+ visitors the board was receiving per day, it was found that 99% of posts moderated were spam based. Given this and after trying everything to prevent such activity, I had no alternative but to close down the board.

On a positive note, I will be setting up a Facebook page and group in the next few days so that small business owners and affiliate marketers can continue to interact with one another. Stay tuned for more information on this.

Google +1 Button

I am pleased to announce that the Google +1 button is now installed on the blog and can be found at the bottom of each blog post and on the toolbar below. The +1 button makes it easy for you to recommend any of my blog posts to your friends and contacts exactly when your advice is most useful - on Google search.

The +1 is often used as a digital shorthand for "this is pretty cool." It's also a way for friends, contacts and the rest of the world to find great things on Google search. Google launched the +1 button back in March as a way to help share web content and make search more personal and relevant. For more information about the +1 button, you can watch this short video.

If you like my posts, try it out and let me know what you think.

Other News

1. Bloggers Network: Given all the wonderful and talented bloggers who have helped Bloggers Network grow into a strong blogging community, I am pleased to announce a new addition to the group: the Bloggers Network fan page at: http://www.facebook.com/BloggersNetwork

This fan page will not replace the group, in fact, it's primarily aim is to promote the group and will be used as a supplementary and support page for the ever expanding group. In addition to having another place for bloggers to post their blog links to gain exposure for their blogs, they can use the Discussion Board to create and discuss blogging topics without the worry of over-posting etc.

The Bloggers Network group is and will always be the main focus point for discussion, networking and for bloggers to grow their readership. The page is just an addition to the wonderful and strong blogging community my members have created. Enjoy and thank you for your continued support!

2. Twimates: I've recently been receiving anonymous comments on the blog post Twimates And Their Illegal Tactics stating how wonderful and trustworthy this service is. With the comments being anonymous, it doesn't take a genius to work out who's posting them :)

Again, beware of this online service given how they used illegal tactics such as hacking into the Twiends site, spam and phishing techniques to try to obtain new members. You can read more on this on the post: Twimates And Their Illegal Tactics.

3. New Domain: Now that the Discussion Board is closed and given the problems I had with my blog, Facebook and the co.cc domain back in February and March (see Related Articles below), I have now decided it's the right time to change the domain for one of my other sites (miragebbs.co.cc) to miragebbs.com. This new domain is currently parked until the transfer from the old domain is complete.

As I mentioned before in a previous post and because I don't want you going through the same experience as I have, try to avoid free domains such as co.cc at all costs. Free domains are subject to abuse by spammers, which in return are easily blocked from social networking sites such as Facebook. May I suggest that if you decide to obtain a domain for your blog or website, that you purchase one from services such as Go Daddy for example.

Finally, we've had some wonderful weather here in the UK last weekend so I couldn't resist going for a long bike ride. I've taken some more scenic pictures while I was on my travels and posted them on Facebook. You can view these under the album: Bike Ride Photo Collection. Enjoy :)

Infolinks Removed From The Blog

You've spoken, I've listened and can therefore announce that the Infolinks contextual advertising program has permanently been removed from the blog.

The testing period was initially for two weeks. However and with receiving 100% negative feedback regarding this program via the blog, email and Facebook, I've decided that this was adequate feedback to stop the testing and remove Infolinks.

I wasn't entirely sure if Infolinks would truly benefit my blog and this is the reason why I give you the opportunity to express your views regarding this program. It is and always will be my objective that the quality of the blog comes first, ads will always come second place. This blog was launched to provide readers such as yourself with good quality, useful content and not (and will never be) used solely as a money-making machine.

I am extremely happy with the feedback I've received and I want to thank everyone for taking the time to submit your views. One comment that grabbed my attention was the suggestion of putting a PayPal Donation Button on my blog to allow readers to donate. I think this is a great idea so I have implemented this feature on the sidebar.

Just a quick update: All online services have now been updated to the new domain. This means that my work is now complete and the blog is finally back to normal. Expect to see more of me on Bloggers Network and the continuation of the articles you've come to like, starting with my next post.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to submit your feedback...your views were greatly appreciated.

25 Essential Blogging Tips

Here's a collection of 25 essential blogging tips I've learned since starting my blog. Follow these tips to make sure you are getting the most out of your blog and the Blogosphere.

1. You should be reading the top blogs in your industry to see what your competitors are doing, stay on top of industry news and track the comments to see what your customers and potential customers are interested in and talking about.

2. Plan your blog in advance and make sure you really understand the purpose of the blog and what you hope to accomplish.

3. Figure out how often you want to post and try to be consistent, so readers can detect a pattern and come to rely on your blog as a consistent source of information.

4. Participate in other blogs by commenting. Your fellow bloggers will get to know you, potential customers will get to know you as they see you participating in other blogs and you often get to link to your own blog with your comment, so you are building links.

5. Be authentic and communicate clearly.

6. Creating an open dialogue is the best way to be sure visitors will respond to your content.

7. Focus on what you know best and don't try to make your blog all things to all people.

8. Don't use your blog as a blatant advertisement. Use your blog to build relationships, establish your credibility, excite prospects about what's going on in your industry and your company and be a source of solid information.

9. Always proofread your posts. Avoid spelling mistakes at all times.

10. Backup your blog (If you use Blogger, you can do this by clicking on "Settings" on the Dashboard... then on the "Basic" page, click on the "Export Blog" link at the top of the page. Rule of thumb is to backup your blog every time you publish a new post).

11. Put a link in your signature on posts.

12. Use Technorati and Feedburner.

13. Write "How to" articles. They are very popular and tend to draw a lot of attention.

14. List your blog on directories (See the Top Blog and RSS Directories page for a full list of directories to submit your blog to).

15. Put an RSS subscription icon on every page.

16. Break long posts into multiple posts.

17. Have a picture of yourself on the "About" page, or even on your blog header graphic.

18. Make it easy for visitors to contact you.

19. Talk directly to your readers and always answer comments and questions.

20. Add podcasts, video, photos and images.

21. After you've written a post, look at it with different eyes. Ask yourself, if I came across this post on someone else's site would I care about it? Does it have some kind of impact on me?

22. To optimise for search engines and your RSS feed, always use keywords in your title.

23. Always clean up comment spam. No one likes a blog littered with comment spam.

24. Web users tend to get lost in large blocks of text - break it into smaller paragraphs and they'll stick with it for longer.

25. Add a poll to your blog. This is a great way to get your readers involved and it can help you tailor your blog's content, based on the feedback you get from your readers. (Vizu is a great service that allows you create and add free polls to your blog. You can also use SurveyMonkey to add surveys to your blog).

Got any blogging tips to share? Feel free to post them in the comments section below.

If you haven't already done so, may I suggest you join the Bloggers Network. The Bloggers Network is a group for bloggers to network with each other. Advertise your blog, post your latest blog posts, plus discuss anything to do with blogging. You can access the group by visiting:

I've seen a dramatic increase over the past couple of weeks in the amount of traffic and people who are following my blog via Google Friend Connect, on NetworkedBlogs, on my Fan Page and via my feed. I would therefore like to take this opportunity to thank you all for following and for your support... I will continue to bring you more great tips, news and informative articles on a regular basis.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the blog owners who have joined the Bloggers Network group on Facebook. As the group gets bigger, I will also be looking for an administrative partner to help me run the group. Until then though, thank you to all the blog owners who have joined so far and I wish you every success with your blogs.

Until my next post, have a fantastic Sunday and thank you once again for following, for your support and for making this blog all worthwhile... Thank You!

Introducing The Bloggers Network

As you may know from my previous post: Latest Blog Changes and Tools, I've been busy making some changes and enhancements to the blog.

My work hasn't stopped there... and to help support the large number of blog owners who visit my blog for marketing tips etc, I am pleased to announce that I've setup a Facebook group for bloggers called the Bloggers Network.

Since setting up this blog, I've spent hours searching the internet for high traffic blog and RSS directories to submit my blog and feed to.

To help you promote your blog and to save you the time searching, I've compiled a list of the internet's Top Blog and RSS Directories.

Most of these directories are free to submit to and only require you to enter a valid email address. Some require you to register before you can submit your blog or RSS feed. Any blog or RSS directories listed with an asterisk (*) require a fee or a reciprocal link to be placed on your site before they will list your blog or RSS feed.

In addition to the blog and RSS directories, you may be interested in joining the Facebook group I've recently setup for bloggers called the Bloggers Network.

The Bloggers Network is a group for bloggers to network with each other. Advertise your blog, post your latest blog posts, plus discuss anything to do with blogging. You can access the group by visiting:
http://www.facebook.com/groups/BloggersNetworkGroup

To compliment the group, I've also setup a Facebook page. You can access this page by visiting: http://www.facebook.com/BloggersNetwork

You can also find Bloggers Network on Google+ and access the group and community by using the following custom links:
https://plus.google.com/communities/104330857061483680840
https://www.google.com/+BloggersNetworkPlus
http://www.BloggersNetworkGroup.com (Facebook)
http://www.BloggersNetwork.info (Google+)

I hope you find this list helpful and if you find any broken links, directories no longer in service or would like to suggest a directory, please let me know using the Contact Tab above. Happy promoting :)

Ping Services:

Autopinger
Feedshark
KingPin
Pingler
PingMyBlog
Pingomatic
TotalPing

Note about Multi-Ping Services: Just be careful not to ping too often, as these services will ban you for over pinging. Rule of thumb is to ping only when you have published new content on your blog.

As this list is updated often as and when new services become available, don't forget to bookmark the page so that you have access to the latest services. Don't forget to also list your blog on YouSayToo, BlogDash and on our new Blog Directory Page.
